This superb reproduction of an idol with four eyes, carved in sand stone, is inspired by an original from 4000 years before J.-C. In ancient Mesopotamia, these idols were commonly used as votive offerings and also served as portable amulets, especially when small.
Mesopotamia, known as the cradle of civilization, was a region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in what is now Iraq and part of Syria and Kuwait. This territory, often referred to as the "fertile Crescent", saw the birth of the first great human civilizations such as the Sumerians, the Akkadians, the Babylonians and the Assyrians. Mesopotamia is known for its innovations in writing (as the invention of the cuneiform), the development of the first cities, and the establishment of legal systems. His rich and symbolic art was deeply influenced by the religious and mythological beliefs of the time.
This idol, with its four eyes, represents the human figure in an abstract way. Multiple eyes symbolize the ability to see or communicate with deities, a striking feature of Mesopotamian religious art. Each piece is hand carved by our craftsmen in our workshops and patinated to give it an authentic and ancient aspect.
Perfect for enriching a collection of ancient objects, this four-eyed idol will transform your home into a true museum, bringing a touch of history and mystery. By adding this exceptional piece to your collection, you pay tribute to the art and spirituality of ancient Mesopotamia, a civilization that has lastingly influenced the history of humanity.
