More info

This superb reproduction of an engraved Mesopotamian idol, inspired by an original from 4000 years before J.-C., captures the mystical essence of ancient Mesopotamia. Used at the time as votive offerings and portable amulets, these idols had a central place in the spirituality and religious practices of the region, especially when they were small.

Mesopotamia, often regarded as the cradle of civilization, was a region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, corresponding to the present Iraq and Kuwait. This fertile territory, also known as the "fertile Crescent", saw the birth of some of the first great human civilizations, such as the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians and Assyrians. Mesopotamia is known for its advances in writing, urban planning, and law, as well as its rich and symbolic art, deeply rooted in religion and mythology.

The idol presented here represents the human figure in an abstract manner, with two eyes symbolizing the ability to see or communicate with the deities, a characteristic common in Mesopotamian art. Hand carved sandstone by our artisans, it has been carefully carved patinated to give it authenticity and a period stamp.

This idol is perfect to complete a collection of ancient objects. It will transform your interior into a true museum, adding a touch of history and mystery. By integrating this exceptional piece into your collection, you celebrate not only ancient art, but also the profound spirituality of Mesopotamia, a civilization that has shaped the history of humanity.
