Absolutely original and very beautiful decorative object here is a re-edition of a very typical Leti statue, from Moluccas Island in Indonesia.
Yene are wooden ancestor statues found in the Leti Islands in eastern Indonesia.
These statues presumably act as a vessel where the ancestor spirit temporarily resides before departing for the land of the dead.
The statues represent deceased family members. The posture of the yene indicates the sex of the deceased.
The male ancestors are shown crouching, while the females are crossed.
The sculpture made it possible to communicate with the spirit of the deceased, either for consultations on important matters or for offerings during annual ceremonies.
