More info

The marquetry of this sumptuous Louis XV dresser is a true testimony of the know-how of 18th-century cabinetmakers. It is distinguished by a subtle and sophisticated checker pattern, made from carefully selected and assembled precious wood essences with remarkable precision.

A geometric motif of great elegance

The checkered pattern present on the facade and sides of the dresser is a perfect example of the marquetry technique known as "cubic without bottom", also known as the trompe-l'oeil perspective. This process consists of combining pieces of wood cut in diamond to create a depth and volume effect. The alternation of darker and lighter hues gives a dynamic impression, as if the decor were in relief.

Precious wood for a unique visual richness

To compose this refined decor, several wood species were used, including:

  • Mahogany : with its warm and deep tint, it forms the basis of the pattern and brings a touch of exoticism.
  • The palisander : known for its sumptuous veins and natural radiance, it adds depth to the contrasts of the checker.
  • Fruit trees (walnut, cherry or pear) they offer clearer nuances that enhance the composition and give it natural brightness.

A game of light and contrast sublimated by the brush varnish

The choice of these species creates a striking visual effect, accentuated by the application of a buffer varnish, a traditional technique that magnifies the colors of wood and gives it a brilliant shine. This finish highlights the richness of nuances and sublimates each diamond of the pattern, capturing light from different angles for an ever changing and living rendering.

A finely chiseled bronze framed marquetry

The checker pattern does not just adorn the surface of the furniture: it is sublimated by a frame gold bronze who marries the curved curves of the dresser. This arabesque frame brings a luxurious contrast with the heat of the wood and highlights the finesse of marquetry work. The pattern rock, characteristic of the Louis XV style, enrich this composition by adding a touch of refinement and baroque elegance.

A Tribute to 18th Century Cabinet Masters

This checkered marquetry, which evokes the most beautiful creations of the royal workshops of the time, is a tribute to the talent of master cabinetmakers such as Jean-François Oeben or Charles Cresent, which marked the history of french furniture by their ingenuity and technical virtuosity.

One top marble choice, for a unique customization

The top of this dresser is decorated with a magnificent top in white veined black marble, adding a luxurious and timeless note. This marble is also available to order in different colours – white, beige, red, green or brown – allowing the furniture to fit your interior according to your aesthetic preferences.

Each detail of this dresser is thus designed to combine aesthetics and craft excellence, making this piece of furniture a except for decorative and functional parts.
